Employment at Rowe

Located in the beautiful Berkshires, Unitarian-Universalist Rowe Camp & Conference Center is widely respected as one of the finest small conference centers in the country. As Rowe Conference Center, in the fall, winter, and spring we offer weekend retreats with renowned leaders. Topics include psychology, spirituality, arts, environment, relationships, and much more. Every summer, we become Rowe Camp. Founded in 1924, Rowe camp offers a unique summer camp program for teenagers, younger people, and adults. Our programs encourage personal growth and responsibility in a fun-filled community environment.

Rowe is an exceptional place to work and live. There are several different opportunities for employment at Rowe:

Full-Time Staff - These are year-round, paid positions.

Work-Study Internships - From six weeks to a year or more, these internships include room and board.

Summer Staff - These paid positions are in support of our camps, running from the middle of June until Labor Day.

Summer Volunteer - We also can use volunteer help in the summer!

Cooking at Rowe - There are several options for people who want to help cook our wonderful food: We have a work-study internship in cooking; we hire and train full-time cooks for the summer; and we hire part-time cooks during the fall, winter and spring. Open Positions At Rowe

Head Chef and Cook Needed - At Rowe, food is about nourishment of body and soul. We are looking for a Head Chef (Associate Chef) skilled in vegetarian cooking for groups. Applicants must have good management and hospitality skills, and be well organized. We are also looking for a full time Cook, with excellent cooking and supervisory skills. Facilities Manager – Each person who works at Rowe helps to create the “Rowe experience” for our guests. We work as a team to create the magic that is Rowe and each person holds a specific piece of that energy. The role of Facilities Manager is to provide the energy of stewardship and service. The Facilities Manager is responsible for the care and stewardship of the facilities, as well as logistics support to the conference and camp leaders. Click for more info.

Summer Cooks - Join the Rowe kitchen staff for the summer, preparing 2 or 3 meals per day for 75-120 people. Requires teamwork and hard work under pressure. Experience is helpful and a love of cooking is a must. Click here for more info. Click here to download a cook’s application.

Summer Volunteers – help with camp changeovers, paint a house, or help in the kitchen. Exchange 25 hours of work a week for meals and housing. Click for more info.

Work-study interns –Work 33 hours a week in exchange for meals, housing, and an opportunity to attend our wonderful programs. Work in the office, housekeeping, kitchen, or facilities, depending on Rowe’s needs and your abilities. September – June only. Click for more info.

Cooking At Rowe

Rowe has a long tradition of serving the freshest, healthiest, most attractive gourmet vegetarian food you can imagine. At Rowe, food is about nourishment of body and soul. Our chefs consistently amaze everyone with their delicious culinary artistry, as well as their willingness to cater to special diets. Their hands nurture our bodies, their hearts nurture our souls. There are many ways to come and be a part of that tradition.  

HEAD CHEF and CHEF

These are full-time positions with salary and benefits. Applicants must be skilled in vegetarian cooking for groups, have good management and hospitality skills, and be well organized. This is a working chef position and includes cooking as well as all other aspects of the kitchen operation. Supervisory experience preferred. CONTRACT COOK-as needed

This is a contract position to cover shifts as needed.  It pays$8-$10p/hour.  We need contract cooks most weekends during the fall and spring, and occasionally during the other seasons.

This position requires the ability to work in a fast paced environment.  Some food prep and cooking experience is necessary.  The ability to follow direction, and to work as a team are essential.

You may be required to lift up to 50lbs. 

SUMMER COOK-full time

This is a 3 month contract position starting on 6/15/08 and ending on 9/14/08

Shared housing, all meals, and a weekly wage of  $225 are provided.

This position requires cooking, baking, and bread making skills, as well as the ability to work in a fast paced environment with minimal supervision.  Good taste, team work and a sense of humor are essential.

Receiving orders, re-stocking and kitchen housekeeping are also part of the job.  You may be required to lift up to 50 lbs.

SUMMER PREP COOK-full time

This is a 3 month contract position starting on 6/15/08 and ending on 9/14/06

Shared housing, all meals, and a weekly wage of $ 200 are provided.

This position requires good prep skills (chopping, salad prep etc…) and safe food handling procedures.  The ability to follow direction, and to work as a team in a fast paced environment are necessary.  A good sense of humor and self motivation to learn  are encouraged.

Receiving orders, re-stocking and kitchen housekeeping are also part of the job.  You may be required to lift up to 50 lbs.
