POSSIBILITIES*

I had a dream. You know, this might not be
The only universe. Some say these could be
Parallel possibilities out there now.
So as I loll here soaking infra red
To ultra violet from Sol the Neighbor Star,
May be another brown and naked poet
Somewhere slowly dries under a sister sun
In another cosmos just the same as ours.

Then I had this dream. That other Earth
Has just a slight variation in its history.
In their world human beings never hurt
One another—it would be unthinkable there.
Never have they known war, and no one harms
Any sentient being on purpose. No weapons
Exist nor are needed. People think
Well of themselves and everyone else they know.

To them all the children are precious gifts
To cherish, protect, and delight in
As they grow, to be honored all their days.
On that world there are no walls, people
Know each other because they stay very close,
Open their hearts, listen to one another,
Value variety, trust the common path,
Understand their souls and have no fear.

There the sacred hoops of the people never
Were broken, clans and families kept together,
Cared for everyone and knew the true
Richness and bliss of life was just human
Affection and kindness. Any wall, such as
Greed or blame, would only steal away
The joy, the sweet, the fun, the tender wonder
Of love, and that was all they came to find.
