A Convivial Vacation: Art, Music, Massage, Writing, Skiing, & New Year's
Eve
December 27-January 1 (Thursday-Tuesday)
Get away from it all for a Winter vacation in the mountains. Deep snow
by Christmas is common here in the northern Berkshires, so many love to
use Rowe as a lodge and go off skiing, downhill or cross country, and return
evenings to eat, drink, and make merry. But last year we had so much fun
at our Millennium Bash, we've decided to invite some of our talented friends
to lead workshops so non-skiers can join the party. Sarah Benson,
singer, songwriter, poet, flautist, friend of Rowe for 35 years, and unabashed
mystic, will make sound and sound us out, and in, and all around. Heidi
Hoop is on Rowe's staff, has a MFA in writing, wrote a lovely book
of short stories, is a dear heart, and will lead writing workshops. Julia
Hickory, performer and teacher with Joyful Noise, will share her passion
for drumming and percussion every day in a drum circle. Jeff Levin
is a massage therapist (see his workshop)
and will lead an evening session for everyone, a couple of workshops, and
be available for private massages. Carol Davidson, professional
stained glass artist and president of RC&CC, will guide us in the creation
of hand made writing books and may also lead drawing, painting, collage
making, and teach a couple of yoga classes. Maria Becke, a great
dancer, will teach dance kinetics. Prue Berry, landscape designer
and former director of Rowe, will be the primary host, keeping everyone
happy and engaged, unless folks want to chill, which is super fine.
All this is in addition to our traditional downhill and cross-country
after Christmas ski vacation. For more skiing information, please contact
us - there are several ski areas within 10 to 55 minutes' drive. We'll
snowshoe, ice-skate, take a sauna, laugh, eat, read, visit, eat some more,
sleep and all-round relax and enjoy the beauty that surrounds us. And there
will be workshops happening every day, and some evenings. On New Year's
Eve, we'll gather to look back on the old year, look ahead to the new and
share a New Year's feast that's not to be missed. Our New Year's Eve party
sometimes lasts deep into the night. Like life, it is what you make it.
The fee for the five days is $440 in our dorm or heated cabin, with
semi-private rooms $100 extra and $200 for private. Children are half-price
for the first, 1/3 for the second, and 1/4 for the rest. If you can't come
the whole time, it's $95 per day. Please join us.
