Celebrating Gay Male Spirit

Dreams of loving and being loved spring from the healthiest aspects of our nature. Yet growing up gay, we are taught to deny our need for love, support, and nurturing from each other and to see ourselves as sexual objects. We struggle to find our true selves and are told to shut our hearts down. Emotions and needs we suppress, however, do not go away they stay inside our bodies and psyches, affecting our health and well-being. Denying feelings, we lose relationship with ourselves, causing contact with others to become confusing and problematic.

In this workshop we will honor the dream of gay male wholeness, recognize our diversity, and celebrate ourselves as sexual and spiritual beings. We will find new ways to touch each other, emotionally and physically, and learn how to make contact with other men in safe, non-threatening ways. We will pay attention to our body's erotic maleness through which our spirits seek expression of the sacred within us. We shall reclaim our souls, hidden beneath our sexual personas.

Rob will teach listening and communication skills, the healing aspect of touch, and how to be present in the moment. We can avoid bringing in old partners and memories that sabotage new beginnings. We'll find new ways to touch each other, emotionally and physically, and learn how to make contact with other men in safe, respectful, non-threatening ways. We'll discover how touch can dissolve the "armor" with which we defend ourselves. We'll bring hidden emotions and memories to the surface, an effective way to promote physical, emotional, and spiritual healing.

Participants will bring a generosity of spirit and their laughter, stories, and feelings. All gay, bi and transgendered men, in a relationship or single, are welcome.
 

Rob Bauer, a clinical social worker and body-centered psychotherapist, has been working with gay men for over 15 years. A Senior Faculty Member at the Rubenfeld Synergy Center and a certified Imago Relationship Therapist, he founded and directs Eagle's Wing, A Center for Awareness and Change in Saratoga Springs, NY.
