No Wrong Notes: Singing for Everyone

David Roth
April 26-28

An expression from Zimbabwe says if you can walk, you can dance, and if you can talk, you can sing. Maybe you've always wanted to sing, but it may bring up anxiety. Maybe your school music teacher told you to move your lips and not make any sound. Perhaps you were laughed at or made fun of by family members or friends. Does the car or the shower feel like the only safe place to express your vocal joy? Is there more of your creative side waiting to be released? This could be the opportunity.

Singing is fun. That's why people do it. You'll know how much fun it is when you leave this workshop on Sunday or we'll give you your money back. Breathe deeply and join our ensemble of unconditional support, where even the chronically timid are encouraged to liberate the natural singing ability we all possess. This weekend we'll put all other distractions aside to make sounds together, and the result will be a song circle that goes deep. Though a sense of humor will be helpful (and in full supply), we will also be privileged to participate in and witness profound beauty, as long-silenced voices come alive.

The essence of this workshop is building a powerful and playful, sculpted and spontaneous vocal community together using songs, rounds, chants, story, breath, groans, guffaws, sighs, yawns, dreams, and desires to reconnect with something deeper inside ourselves and with each other. Our sacred to sometimes silly song circle (all levels are welcomed, no experience needed) is a safe place. The "instant angelic choir" will emphasize making joyful and meaningful sounds together, celebrating our uniqueness, feeling and witnessing powerful moments, and having fun via our one common instrument <197> the voice. David's years of experience as song leader and fun-raiser will give you permission to warble wholeheartedly with kindred spirits once again. Every day is "Non-Judgement Day," so bring a song or two that you love (or would love) to sing, and instruments if you'd like.
