WUUNDER Camp

A Young in Spirit Camp for 18-108 year olds and their children
May 19-24

"I remember light filtering through trees. Stars so close it felt as if they would fall on my head and shoulders, leaving glitter all over. I laughed late into the night until I could barely laugh anymore. Holding my friends and crying, because I was somewhere I could. Feeling more like my true self than I had ever felt before." - Andrew Plummer
Last year, inspired by a camp reunion, a group of `graduated' Rowe campers, conferees, and other playful minded `grownups,' dreamed up a new camp and called it WUUNDER Camp, for Wonderful Unitarian Universalist Network of Diverse Energetic Revolutionaries. We hope to bring back some of the summer camp magic we remember and offer it to those who never experienced the joys of places like Rowe Camp, UU Conferences, Ferry Beach, Star Island, and Summer's End. Camp is intended to be fun, a time for laughter, relaxation, creating and connecting to an amazing community, playfulness, and growth. In the spirit of Rowe, nothing but KP will be mandatory, so each of us decides the level we participate on.

There will be intensive workshops like sexuality for adults and creating community, shared worship services, spirit fires and bonfires, lots of singing, grokking, long walks in the woods, yoga and massage, sauna and hot tubbing, a coffee house, the Rowe Studio 54 Gender-Bender Lip Sync Dance Party, mask-making, art projects, theatre, dance, and late night games.

You may want to attend every workshop, participate in every activity, and stay up all night. Or you may want to sit on the porch and bask in the sunlight, take a trip to the sauna and cleanse your spirit, walk the labyrinth, sleep late, or talk till you run out of words. You will make it happen, its up to you. The food is amazing, the setting is beautiful, and the people are truly dynamic. Summer camp is not just for kids.

The staff is led by directors Bonnie Rovics, a Shiatsu bodywork therapist, jazz flutist, and festival organizer, and Andrew Plummer, an artist who works as the video technician for Blue Man Group. Chaplains are longtime Rowie Wendy Swanson, who founded a woman's spirituality group and will lead yoga and chapels, and Jaco B. ten Hove, a UU minister in the DC area who was a director of Rowe camps for a decade or so, and will offer workshops on UUism, chapel creating, and community building. Meanwhile, Maggie (aka Missy) Salzberg, an amazing singer/songwriter who was Rowe Senior High Camp director, will lead us in songs and jam sessions. Sarah Hougan, a well-established artist, will help us create playful art with her eternal patience. Mike Stevens, one of the most playful adults ever, will lend his boundless energy to games and adventures. Eric Cooper, a professional musician and Rowe legend, will host late night insanity, a repertoire of strange activities he's been developing all his life. Jen Devine helped design the OWL (Our Whole Lives) sexuality training and is the continental programming director for UU youth and an artist. Noah Fields will be leading a weeklong workshop to create a giant art installation out of the woods. Special guest workshops that could include writing, theatre, comedy, belly dancing, and more.

We're dedicated to creating incredible, playful, thought-provoking, artistic space. Our workshop are designed for adults, but child care will be provided during the daytime workshops and we're hoping to form a sitting collective with all the parents during evening activities. The cost is $410, and kids are $205 for your first, $145 for your second, and $95 for the rest. For more information check out Wuunder@yahoogroups.com
