September 19-21
Imagine this: You are supported within a community of women who share your values, and whose stories echo your own. Together, you've been examining the cultural myths about an astonishingly important life transition, and you reclaim the power of this time for yourself. Previously conflicting information about medical choices has been clarified. You feel empowered in how to use the medical system to create and maintain strength in body and mind. You have hands on familiarity with herbs and knowledge of other natural medicines. You have reawakened your feminine intuition, and trust that it will guide you in the coming decades, when you may make your most important contribution to this world. It will happen. Our weekend together is dedicated to nothing less than a complete revolution in how we approach menopause. All of us have inherited the cultural beliefs , conscious or otherwise , that marginalize menopause. Add to that the changing news about hormone therapy, and conflicting information about soy, herbs and other natural remedies, and it's easy to get confused and lose touch with our inner voice. What we need instead is clarity around our options and the knowledge of how to use this transition to empower our lives.
In this workshop we will learn about nutritional and lifestyle approaches to perimenopause and beyond. We'll discuss the ten most important herbal allies we can enlist during this time. You'll then create a special blend for yourself and pass your herbal knowledge on to other women, as we share stories over tea. You'll get expert guidance regarding natural (that is, bio identical) and conventional hormone therapy and learn how to work with your health care practitioners at home in making decisions for your own personal situation. A slide show and discussion about osteoporosis will give you a deeper understanding about how to maintain strong bones for life. Most important, you'll be guided in contacting your inner wisdom, and uncovering what this transition can mean for you. You will leave relaxed, uplifted and affirmed, with the tools you need to create the best YOU in the decades to come. Dr. Lorilee Schoenbeck has been leading retreats for women in perimenopause and menopause throughout the world for seven years. She is a faculty member of the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health in Lenox MA; an expert in natural health care for women; and practices naturopathic medicine in Burlington, Shelburne and Middlebury VT. In 2002, she became the first naturopathic physician (N.D.) in the nation to offer natural medicine services within a Planned Parenthood owned gynecology clinic. Dr. Lorilee is a committed proponent of integrating the best ideas from all approaches and a popular speaker to physicians and allied health professionals as well as to the public. A yoga instructor for twelve years, Lorilee also believes our inner knowing is a higher authority than the most expert medical professionals, and she facilitates deep experiences of contacting this voice during her workshops. Released August 2002, her book Menopause, Bridging the Gap Between Natural and Conventional Medicine combines her expertise with that of a prominent OB GYN physician and a psychiatrist specializing in women's issues to present the first non biased, comprehensive guide to menopause written by experts from "both sides of the fence." More information about Lorilee and her book is found at www.DrLorilee.com. We welcome her on her first visit to Rowe.
"Lorilee is extremely committed, easy to understand, explains things clearly, is funny, gentle, perceptive and good at quickly getting people down to a relaxed state. She is able to conduct the spiritual programming as well as the information based. Also powerful was the bonding of women sharing the same experience in a meaningful way, and the enlightenment about menopause facts that my nurse practitioner hadn't told me." Dawn Ferrari, R.N.
