September 24-26, 2004

We’ll start simply and build songs brick by brick, finding our own melodies and rhythms. We’ll brainstorm compelling themes, examine different elements that go into songs, and engage in carefully crafted exercises. We’ll explore how to mold our inspirations, develop universal truths from personal stories, and be honest. Don’t leave music in the hands of professionals. A weekend flies by, so we won’t make room for the inner critic, but fun will be ever-present. With any luck (the intersection of opportunity and persistence), we’ll come away with our own unique, personal song that no one else on earth could create. This gathering is for those new to the craft as well as those who might like to look through a different lens at this wondrous art form. Bring instruments if you like, but come ready to proclaim what’s in your heart.

David Roth is a singer, songwriter, and Wind River recording artist.
