Throughout time, in all cultures, women have gathered together to singrejoicing, healing, mourning, reflecting, and creating celebration. Theres a spirit in creating live music that many of us have forgotten but it can be rekindled in us again.
Described by one reviewer as a choir of the Goddess, Libanas memorable concerts convey a sense of peace, hope, celebration, and community. For 25 years they have been dedicated, within their own circle, to the process of ongoing growth, healing and friendship through the power of shared music. Join Susan and Marytha for a retreat to rediscover the singers that we all are. Women new to the exploration of their voice as well as seasoned singers are warmly invited.
Our bodies are our instruments. When we sing, a shift occurs, our cells and molecules dance and rearrange. Each voice is unique; our voice expresses our spirit, our soul, our heart, our essential being. As each womans resonant and authentic voice joins the circle, a delightful and transformative experience of community emerges. Loosen up, shake out, breathe, feel your natural rhythm, and align with yourself and your voice. Enter the sound and it will teach you.
Through the profound pulsation of chant, the exquisite circular harmonies of rounds, and the spirited songs of the world, we will experience the ephemeral joy of making music. We will share songs, silence, dance, ritual, and a sense of wonder. Bring small percussion instruments if you have them, an open heart, and a willingness to find the singer that lives in each of us.
As pioneers in the realm of world music, Libana illuminates the spirit and universality of womens experience through the performance of music, song, and dance from around the globe. Their concerts, numerous recordings and tangible sense of intentional community have inspired the formation of countless song-circles and the repertoire of performing ensembles worldwide. Susan Robbins, Libanas founder and Artistic Director, knew from an early age that singing was at the core of her spiritual path. Her deep compassion, love of laughter, and heartfelt belief in the healing power of music bring a clarity, insight, and brilliance to her music and teaching. Marytha Paffrath, Libanas principal drummer and percussionist, is an innovative teacher, singer, composer, and writer who believes deeply in bringing the simplicity of song to the complexity of the world. Together, Marytha and Susan bring lively, humor-filled, grounded guidance to workshops coast to coast.
