April 1-3 Susun Weed is here to wake us up to the earth’s gifts, to entice us to bend over and pick a weed and taste it. She loves to see the enchanted glow that lights our faces when we realize all we need for health and nourishment is right here for free, a giveaway of the earth’s abundance. As a green witch, she approaches healing medicine as a living manifestation of the Goddess. She reminds us that our bodies are organic, changing entities that we can trust to renew and transform us. Susun’s dramatic and colorful yet easy and friendly teaching style invites us to get to know plants from the inside out, slowly, with the same respect and patience we show people revealing their personalities. When we open to the mysteries of the plant world and flow from the heart, we are dancing in the Tao, spiraling through grief and joy, healing the Wise Woman Way.
What is the Wise Woman Way? Orthodox scientific medicine heals by fixing the machine. Alternative or heroic medicine heals by cleaning out what is dirty, bad, or wrong. The Wise Woman tradition holds that all things are interconnected and our task is to acknowledge and trust our bodies as perfect manifestations of our wholeness, accepting life and death, health and sickness as part of the spiral. As a “backwards pioneer,” Susun brings this ancient wisdom to our modern lives, saying “I speak for the earth. I am the voice of the plants, bringing the ways of the Ancient Grandmothers to the sacred sister spiral of today.”
This retreat is designed to satisfy your needs and desires. We will choose from a basket brimming with possibilities: weed walks, shamanic trances, handson herbal medicine, plant lore, optimum nutrition, eating weeds (powerhouses of minerals), as well as singing, welcoming back the fairies, and touching the magic afoot. Susun delivers profound and practical advice as she entertains and delights. A joyous spirit and a powerful presence, she teaches with such confidence and clarity that some people feel shocked, even offended, but she doesn’t teach what she hasn’t experienced.
Her main message is to reclaim simplicity, to regain our connection with the earth by growing our own food, making our own medicines, loving each other well, and knowing how and when to use other forms of medicine for our benefit. You will take away a newfound confidence in your ability to use the earth’s gifts of food, medicine, and pleasure to bring health and energy back into your life. Your health and your life will never be the same!
