“There is some kiss we want with our whole lives.” — Rumi

The “kiss” we yearn for is a joyous and loving relationship with our world and our true self. We all long to live with passion, to feel engaged with life, to be in love with the moment we’re in — even if it’s a difficult moment. On our paths of self-discovery, we may have sensed something higher, a sacred Other, an inner guide, animus or anima, our very Soul — that can accompany us on our immense journey.

This guide is the Beloved, universal symbol of our ecstatic bond with our own divinity. The Beloved is an archetype who appears in the myths and legends of many lands, in the prayers of mystics of all the world’s religions, and in Jungian psychology as a symbol of the integrated Self. Elusive, yet so accessible, always beckoning, loving us utterly, the Beloved’s role is to help us step into the whole world as if into the arms of a waiting lover.

Under Trebbe’s inspired guidance, you’ll be encouraged to develop your relationship with this sacred Other through guided meditations, and an exploration into how real-life loves who have opened (or even broken) your heart have actually led you closer to the divine Beloved. You’ll discover and transform old ways of thinking about desire and you’ll take the first vital steps in partnership with the Beloved.

We’ll have the opportunity to tell our stories, letting each person’s story enhance the stories of others, so that the group creates a real mythos together. It is possible to access the world beyond the veil of the everyday. In the company of the Beloved, the way is filled with meaning, beauty, and joy.

Trebbe Johnson is the author of The World Is a Waiting Lover: Desire and the Quest for the Beloved, published in 2005 by New World Library. She leads workshops, ceremonies, and vision quests internationally, from Ground Zero in New York City to the Sahara Desert. She is constantly pulled toward the wondrous and we welcome her back on her second visit to Rowe.
