Sound has been used as a healing catalyst throughout time, and the use of sound is one of the most promising therapies in complementary medicine. A growing body of scientific evidence suggests that the informed use of sound can affect physical and mental states of being. These uses include sounds and music made by chanting, toning, vocal harmonics, shamanic drumming and journeying, “singing” bowls, bells, and tuning forks.

Because we are vibrational beings, healing occurs when sound frequencies interact with physical and psychological conditions. Today, sound practitioners incorporate a variety of therapies, often in conjunction with traditional medicine. The use of clear communication and conscious intention helps create an environment for healing, wellness, and growth.

Join with some of the most accomplished sound healers in the country in this Third Annual Sound Healing Conference of the New England Sound Healing Research Institute (NESHRI). Members receive a $15 discount. We’ll learn some of the latest scientific research into the nature of sound and explore the re-emerging science of cymatics, the study of how sound vibration interacts with physical form. We’ll experience workshops, concerts, Kirtan (ecstatic chanting), and sacred sound techniques. We’ll use the power of sound to explore our deeper natures and resonate with the mystery of the world within and around us. For the full program and presenter bios, please visit www.neshri.org or http://thecenteroflight.net/NESHRIConf2006.html.

Presenters include Molly Scott, a therapist, singer, educator, and pioneer in the use of the embodied voice in psychotherapy. She directs the Creative Resonance Institute and teaches at Antioch New England Graduate School. Dr. Scott will focus on sounding a bridge between main stream and esoteric therapeutic practice. John Beaulieu founded BioSonic Repatterning™, is a past supervisor of Music Therapy at Bellevue Psychiatric Hospital, and wrote Music and Sound in the Healing Arts. Dr Beaulieu will share his molecular research in energy medicine that tunes the human nervous system with tuning forks. Saruah Sarah Benson has been exploring sound, consciousness, and healing for over 30 years, released untold tapes, CDs, and books, created Source Sound Soul Energetics, and co-founded the Earth Sound Light Center. One of the wise ones, Saruah will share experiences with her cancer journey.

Zacciah Blackburn founded and directs the Center of Light Institute of Sound Healing and Shamanic Studies, is Director of Education for NESHRI, and co-founded the World Sound Healing Organization. He makes musical instruments, is a sound healer, and will present “The Three Gunas, Bija (Seed) Sounds, and how to use them. For 20 years, Jeff Volk has published programs on cymatics — how sound creates harmonic, geometric patterns that are found in intricate life forms and sacred art and architecture. Erik Larson is a designer, inventor, and engineer who played a large role in the development of the legendary Parker guitar. His passion is to help people see sound and thus understand the nature of the vibrations that hold us (and all matter) together. Erik and Jeff will show us the CymaScope, a device to show how sound creates form and structure in matter. “You’ll never look at sound the same again!” ™ Michelle Herrera Foster and Benyamin Sheppard (co-founders of NESHRI), Saruah Benson, and Molly Scott will present music; Christopher Kavi Carbone will lead chanting.
