Many children are considered special in some way: they are diagnosed with conditions such as attention deficit disorder, take medication, or attend special classes. They challenge us with their unusual temperaments, which conceal the special gifts they bring to their parents, teachers, and the world at large.

When your child is unhappy or not performing, there’s tension at home and in school. You wonder what life will be like in 5 or 10 years, whether your child will graduate from high school or college, or will manage as a young adult. For 28 years, Mariola and Ilana have traveled this road; their journey made them happier, stronger, more loving, and more compassionate for themselves and those they work with daily.

This experiential retreat is for parents, teachers, caregivers, and anyone concerned about today’s special children. Its purpose is to show you the invisible world they experience, beginning with conception, birth, and developmental stages through the late 20s. At each stage, you will reflect on your own life, the development of the child in your life, and understand the possible positive effects complementary therapies can have on you and your child.

Through reflection, journaling, sharing, movement, and working with color, sound, and essential oils, the retreat will give you a chance to feel the inner struggles of one such special child (Ilana) and will help you understand your own child.

You will leave with concrete tools to transform your inner and outer relationship with your child, and hopefully, you’ll feel strengthened, supported, and confident enough to create a peaceful environment for yourself and your child for many years to come.

Mariola Strahlberg Kind has an MS in Electrical Engineering from Columbia, an MS from Tri State College of Acupuncture, and has a private acupuncture practice. Ilana Kind has an MSW from Fordham, works in a residential program for at-risk girls, and is a certified Yoga Instructor. We are happy to welcome these old friends of Rowe to their first workshop here.

“For Ilana, her life is a journey of unraveling her special gifts of the warmth of her heart, strengths of morality and ethics and charisma that surpassed psychological labels, symptoms and established rules in our school systems. It is a story of success that belongs to all those who take time and listen to the messages of their own hearts”
