Feb 9-11, 2007

Across time and all cultures, women have gathered to sing– to rejoice, heal, celebrate, reflect and give expression to the intricate cycles of their lives and the world around them. There is a power and spirit in creating music together, which, even if forgotten, can be remembered. You are invited to join Susan and Marytha for a magical retreat to rediscover the singer that we all are and can be. As we create a musical community for the weekend, we will experience the profound pulsation of chant, the exquisite circular harmonies of rounds, and the exhilaration of collectively generating sound, rhythm, and vibration. We will dance, laugh, listen, and share silence and a sense of wonder in rekindling the transcendent joy inherent in making music together.

Women new to the exploration of their voice as well as seasoned singers are warmly welcomed. Please bring an African style drum and small percussion if you have them, an open heart, and a willingness to find the singer that lives in each of us.

Described as “a choir of the Goddess,” Libana’s memorable concerts convey a deep sense of peace, hope, celebration, and universal community. For 27 years, the ensemble has illuminated the spirit of women’s experience as expressed through music, song, and dance from around the globe. Libana’s concerts, numerous recordings (including the acclaimed A Circle Is Cast), and tangible sense of intentional community have inspired the formation of song-circles and performing groups worldwide. Please see www.libana.com.

Susan Robbins, Libana’s founder and Artistic Director, knew from an early age that singing was at the core of her spiritual path. Her deep compassion, love of laughter, and heartfelt belief in the healing power of music bring a clarity, insight, and brilliance to her music and teaching. Marytha Paffrath, Libana’s principal drummer and percussionist, is an innovative teacher, singer, composer, and writer who believes deeply in bringing the simplicity of song to the complexity of the world. Together, Marytha and Susan bring lively, humor-filled, grounded guidance to workshops coast to coast.

Past workshop participants write:

“ I found such a sense of transformation—magic really—in your workshops. You have our deepest gratitude for the spirits you carry, the gifts you bring, and the magic that restores us to human dignity.”

“Your humor, lightness, and wonderful way of co-facilitating, combined with the passionate, professional, informative love for your work, created a safe, loving, fun, and compassionate space to be in.”
