Do you long to create a garden that inspires and connects you to the grace and wonder of a deeply sacred space? Have you ever wanted to create such a garden but didn't know where to begin?
Whether you live in the woods, in the suburbs, or on a small, sunny, urban site, whether you are new to gardening or you've been digging it all your life, there is much you can do. Join gifted landscape designers Prue Berry, Mary Dewart, and Maria von Brincken to deepen your experience of nature and develop imaginative ideas for garden spaces that are spiritually nurturing.
The nestled setting of Rowe will be a point of departure for discovering the possibilities of sanctuary and clarifying your own personal gardening goals. We will tune into nature, visit nearby gardens, awaken our imaginations, and develop our own visions of oasis, of paradise.
Our gardens can reflect and enhance our spiritual lives, offering opportunities for relaxation, uplift, healing, and renewal. Come, learn to play in the garden, and work can become a joyful, creative, even divine process. You will return home ready to create a garden that will nurture your life.
Maria von Brincken has been designing and installing award-winning gardens for close to 20 years and is nationally certified by APLD. Her organic gardens feature compositions of color, form, texture, and bloom sequences. Maria's artistic intent is to weave client values and dreams into beautiful garden places planned to evoke our better selves. She has a regular column in LandShapes magazine and lectures at conferences and symposiums.
Mary Dewart is widely experienced in her 20 years of creating gardens, from sunny seaside habitats to walled urban spaces. She loves helping gardeners connect with possibilities for their site and has taught horticulture and design classes and symposia, including the Master Gardener Program for the Massachusetts Horticultural Society. A lifelong gardener, naturalist, sculptor, and adventurer, she’s also an environmental activist and preservationist.
Prue Berry is a warm-hearted and good-humored earth-enthusiast who co-directed Rowe Camp and Conference Center for 17 years and now hosts Rowe weekends as Director Emerita. In her landscape design business, Sacred Spaces, she goes to people’s homes, uncovers their longings, and offers them tangible plans for bringing more beauty into their lives, homes, gardens, and hearts.
Prue, Mary, and Maria are all certified designers from the Radcliffe Seminars Program in Landscape Design, now the Harvard Institute for Landscape Studies. A wonderful energy abides with these women. When they get together, their enthusiasm is contagious.
