During this experiential workshop, you will be introduced to core shamanism: the universal and near-universal basic methods of the shaman that are used to enter non-ordinary reality for problem solving, well being, and healing. Emphasized will be the classic shamanic journey, one of the most remarkable visionary methods used by humankind to explore the hidden universe, otherwise known mainly through myth and dream. Aided by drumming and movement techniques, you will be initiated into shamanic journeying and introduced to the shamanic state of consciousness, which is capable of awakening dormant spiritual abilities and connections with Nature.
Practice will include sharing your discoveries in shamanic journeys, as well as applying these skills to solving personal problems. You will also be provided with methods for journeying to discover and study with your own individual spiritual teachers in non-ordinary reality, a classic step in shamanic practice. You will learn how the journey is utilized to restore spiritual power and health and how shamanism can be applied in contemporary daily life to help heal oneself, others, and the planet. Completion of this workshop, which is also known as the Foundation for Shamanic Studies Basic Workshop, qualifies you to take more advanced workshops and training courses with the Foundation.
For 12 years, Nan Moss and David Corbin have been faculty members of the Foundation for Shamanic Studies, a worldwide organization founded by Michael Harner for the preservation and teaching of shamanism. They are certified by the Foundation as shamanic counselors and teach both beginning and advanced courses for the Foundation. They also have a long-standing interest in the spiritual aspect of weather, which they’ve been researching for much of their lives, and teach workshops on Weatherdancing: Shamanism and the Spirits of Weather. Their book on Weather Shamanism is being published late this year, and they produced a set of shamanic divination cards: CloudDancing: Wisdom from the Sky. They have a private practice in shamanic teaching and counseling: www.shamanscircle.com. The compassion of the Spirits encountered along their way sustains their love of life.
