When we enter this world, we are all kindred spirits, but somewhere along the way we get hurt or we forget, and we become separated. The journey of Kindred Spirits is the joy of reconnecting with self, the natural world, and other human beings. With its roots in the 12-step recovery movement, Kindred Spirits encourages authentic expression of feelings, acknowledgment of past pain, and a commitment to balance tears with laughter. We create a fun, safe, relaxed community to which many return year after year, and newcomers are welcomed into the family with open arms.

Kindred Spirits is for people interested in expanding their growing edges, relaxing, and having fun. Activities range from the ridiculous to the sublime in a beautiful, natural environment, where the cabins are rustic and the food divine. Free your imagination to create what you have always wanted. Explore “lifeshops” in relationships, awakening the heart, drumming, prosperity, nurturing the self, community building, creative expression, meditation, music, play, movement, and the healing arts. Immerse yourself in singing, dancing, campfires, support groups, a no-talent show, swimming, and lots of time just schmoozing.
Join a safe community that supports us in taking our next steps in moving into our wholeness. The camp is facilitated by an amazing group of seasoned staff members with a wide variety of talents. Woven through every activity is the intention to connect in compassionate kindness and create a healing environment.
Desiree Lawrence has worked on the staff of KS camp for the past 7 years. She is a compassionate and intuitive woman with impeccable organizational skills. She is a long-time friend of 12-step recovery and is dedicated to the process of helping people with their personal life journeys.

Tom Allan, LCSW, LADC, CCS is a client- centered clinical social worker and is an outpatient program manager at an addictions treatment center in Portland, Maine. He has worked on the staff of Heartquest and the Awakening the Heart workshop. He is funny, compassionate, and dedicated to the process of recovery and self discovery. Tom has been growing at Rowe for 15 years.
Together, these leaders and the rest of the staff have a long and profound belief in, and commitment to, Kindred Spirits Camp, and they hope you will join them.
‘When I came to Kindred Spirits in 2005 I had been in therapy and 12 step programs for many years with minimal success. After only a week at camp my life was transformed. I learned that I could be love and be loved in return and face my difficult emotions and survive. The people I met there have become my closest friends, and we stand by each other. My life has taken many wonderful and exciting new turns and I will be a devoted member of the Kindred Spirits community for the rest of my days.”
