Enjoy a winter vacation in the mountains, where deep snow by Christmas is common. Vacations are essential. Finding somewhere to go that is fun, different, comfortable, and modest in price is important. Rowe meets these needs. Come for a winter getaway. Invite your long-lost family to join you for our informal family reunion. Immerse yourself in an end-of-year retreat. Get away, let loose, chill. Leave email behind. Feel free from responsibility.

We’ll provide sumptuous meals and comfortable housing for your winter getaway. Rub elbows with the other great people who come, or wander off to be alone. Snowshoe, ice-skate, take a sauna, laugh, eat, read, visit, eat some more, sleep, sit in front of the fire, and all-round relax and enjoy the beauty that surrounds us. Many use Rowe as a lodge to go off downhill or cross-country skiing and return evenings to eat, drink, and make merry. Ungroomed cross-country trails are just out the door, groomed ones are a short drive away. We’re within 25 miles of seven ski areas, within an hour of about ten art museums, including the exquisite Clark and the ultra-cool Mass MoCA.

New Year’s Eve offers something for everyone. Some follow the classic New Year’s Eve tradition, which is fine with us; others want to touch their own heart and use the time for retreat and reflection. We’ll have a time for those who want to share their lives and there will be plenty of opportunity for play and celebration. We throw a New Year’s Eve dance party which sometimes lasts deep into the night.

We’re in the workshop biz, so we’ve asked friends to lead some workshops, mostly of the fun and creative sort. Jeff Levin will provide massages and a couple of workshops to show you how to do it yourself. Elizabeth Bain, our artist in residence, will offer art workshops, including painting, drawing, and collage, to adults and kids alike. Our friend Mimi Aarens will lead creative writing workshops for beginners and pros, young and not-so-young. Felicity Pickett, our director, loves the dream life and runs an excellent dream group. Prue Berry will lead a workshop on labyrinths and another ondowsing. Deb Lively will teach you the art of wood-burning. Paulette Roccio will lead indoor and outdoor playshops for the young and young-at-heart. So bring your sleds, skates, and whatever else you want to play with. (We’ll also have some available) In addition there will be music, singing, dancing, and much more.

Workshops and leaders subject to change.
