Young People’s Camp is all about fun! Every day offers a variety of choices ranging from a quiet game of chess to a rowdy game of ultimate Frisbee; song writing groups to junk band sessions; a bracelet making playshop to fun theater games; mural painting to body painting; blowing bubbles to making up super- heroes (a YPC favorite!) Some days we dress as pirates, other days we do everything backwards. At lunch- time, we express our Rowe Spirit when we bang on the tables and make lots of noise. Later, by the bonfire, we have quieter times, telling stories and singing songs.
For many, YPC is their first time away from home. This can be scary and exciting. Enrollment is limited to 20 for each session, so each camper gets lots of individual attention and the opportunity to have a really positive experience. The staff members are fun, energetic, dedicated individuals with a wide range of gifts to share. They encourage the magic of childhood by creating a loving, nourishing camp, free of competition and criticism, where everyone can explore and have fun.
YPC is the most exciting event of the year for almost all our campers and staff. Ask anyone and they’ll tell you they think about camp all year. Come join us at YPC!!! We want to share all of our fun with you!!!
This is Pippi Kessler’s third year as YPC Director. When she was nine years old, she spent her first day at Rowe making pillow forts and new friends; she loved YPC. She is a current board member of the Council of Unitarian Universalist Camps and Conference Centers and is designing resources for camp directors and staff to encourage safe, creative, collaborative camp communities. She was on YPC staff for seven years and Junior High staff for four years. She is the author of YPC’s first staff training and resource book. She graduated from Harvard, where she studied youth religious education, and has a wild imagination and a deep respect for young people.
“Seriously, I think about Rowe EVERY DAY. I think about how my days at Rowe were always perfect. I love Rowe. It’s the most special place I’ve ever been.”
-- a camper
“Other camps that I have gone to have so many rules. Too many!
Rowe Camp is like freedom. You can take your shoes off.
I made friends so quickly, and people can just be people.”
